A night owl trying ‘The Miracle Morning’ routine to become a morning person

I am really not a morning person.
I am the type of person who sets at least 5 alarms to wake up. I’m serious.

Thankfully I have been working from home since February 2020, so I was able to get a little more sleep in the morning.

But there are some rare days when I happen to wake up earlier in the morning. To me early means around 8 am or 9 am.

Even if I wake up earlier in the morning, there is nothing to do so I end up staying in bed with my phone scrolling down my Instagram feed full of unwanted ads or watching random food videos on YouTube.

Since it’s a new year, and I really want this year to be a blast, I want to stop making excuses that I am not a morning person and start becoming one.

Also if I have something to get up for, I will have more reasons to wake up early and actually make good use of the time in the morning.

Then I thought of one of my favorite books, “The Miracle Morning” by Hal Elrod. I read this book last year and it gave me so much inspiration but I was too lazy to start the ‘Miracle Morning Challenge’

yep.. 9 AM…

This will be the perfect challenge for me to actually start waking up earlier in the morning and making good use of the time to create a new morning routine.

“The Miracle Morning” talks about 6 reasonable practices for 6 Minutes.
(Hal Elrod abbreviates it as SAVERS)

  1. Silence (Minute One)
Instead of hectic and rushed mornings, you sit and stay calm for the first minute. I can either pray, meditate, breathe deeply, or just simply relax my body.

My plan: I wear an Apple Watch, so I plan to breathe with it and pray.
  2. Affirmations (Minute Two)
You bring out your daily Affirmations and read them out loud — that remind you of your unlimited potential and gives you confidence. Hal Elrod says, “they transform how you think and feel so you can overcome your limiting beliefs and behaviors and replace them with those you need to succeed.“

My plan: I will write out my affirmation, print it, and tape it next to my desk. So I don’t have to open any journals or pick up my phone to read my affirmation out loud every morning.
  3. Visualization (Minute Three)
Close your eyes or look at your vision board, and you visualize. Visualize your goals, what it will look and feel like when you achieve them. Also visualize your perfect day, accomplishing all that you intend to accomplish for the day.

My plan: I will visualize my day going perfectly and achieving my daily goals and my long-term goals. I will visualize it as clearly as I could so it can really feel real.
  4. Scribing (Minute Four)
Bring out your journal (it could be your phone note app), and take a minute to write down whatever is in your mind. It could be journaling, just jotting down ideas, writing down what you are grateful for or proud of!

My plan: I will create a Google Doc and just do short writing. The topic or style will depend on what I feel like writing each day. (I don’t want to be stressed out to write something.) I also want to search for some great apps for notes/journaling.
  5. Reading (Minute Five)
Just grab a book and invest one miraculous minute reading a page or two. Instead of trying to read a lot, just take a short time to learn a new idea or get inspired.

My plan: There are a lot of books I need to read this year… So I will grab a motivational book and read a page or two in the morning for a minute. I can maybe try reading more at night before going to bed.
  6. Exercise (Minute Six)
It was a great peaceful and inspiring 5 minutes. Now it’s time to finally stand up and spend your last minute doing some exercise. You don’t have to feel pressured to do any amazing workout. Just do some jumping jacks or stretching so you get energized.

My plan: I will stretch out my body and do high knees for a minute.

So this is the Miracle Morning Challenge I will need to do every morning as a routine.

My work starts at 9 am Tue.-Fri. except on Monday, I start at 1 pm.
I will wake up at 8:30 am and do 6 minutes Miracle Morning practices.
By 8:40 am, I will have a fresh and clear mind to start my day.
I will drink some water, eat vitamins, and make my favorite morning smoothie. Then I will sit down at my desk and spend around 10~15mins as my free time. I can use the time to look through social media, read the book I was reading, and watch a motivational video.

My challenge starts tomorrow morning (Jan. 7th, 2021).

After doing it for a month, I will write an update on how the Miracle Morning routine has changed my daily life.

🤞🏼
